Extra Sessions for Seniors

The pastoral staff is preparing three special lectures for our seniors this fall. These sessions are in addition to those already scheduled. All will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, and the pastor that does the presentation will accompany the group to K&W were we will all eat lunch—-everybody pays for their own!

  • October 16: Dr Green will speak on the subject of “Mentoring: Children, Grandchildren & Strangers.” Seniors have so much to teach those with less experience in life, not just just our children and grandchildren, but often, the stranger who seeks our friendship and counsel. Of course, mentoring, like every form of learning is always a two way steet!”
  • November 20: Mr. Rights will speak on the subject of “Memory.” John will accent what we remember, how we retain those memories, and the meaning that they have.
  • December 18: Dr. Marcus will speak on the subject of “Prayer.” This is an great opportunity to look at all the hows, whys and why-nots of prayer.
  • Please make plans to join us.

Seniors have been sharing life stories at meetings in April, May and July. We’ll continue to collect stories at the October 9 and November 13 meetings, then share some of them with the whole group on December 11. We especially invite veterans to share stories at the November meeting.

You can click on Story Telling Gallery to see some of the photos of those whose stories have been shared in small groups.

With his usual lively wit and style, C. Daniel Crews, Archivist of the Moravian Church, Southern Province, tells the story of the Unity in this new hardback edition entitled ‘Faith, Hope, Love.’ This history of the Moravian Church is rendered by a uniquely qualified scholar who lives in Winston-Salem, NC, but has studied in Prague and has served as an ordained minister of the Moravian Church for more than three decades not only in Forsyth County, but in England, and on the Island of St. Thomas. A great read. The book is 417 pages long and is available through Moravian Book & Gift.
