Adult Sunday School Classes

New Philadelphia Moravian Church is committed to the Christian education, spiritual formation, and nurture of its adult members, too. A variety of classes are offered which enable persons to learn and grow in faith, to discern God’s will for their lives and to live in the world as Christian disciples. Adult Sunday School Classes provide a choice of studies and study methods as well as providing a network of fellowship and support. In addition to the traditional Sunday morning classes, we are constantly developing and offering a variety of small-group educational opportunities that meet at various times during the week. Please check the bulletin and the newsletter for these opportunities.

Advent Class: 3rd Floor

This is a large class of middle-aged adults that utilizes a lecture-style format and a standard curriculum. The class participates in a variety of church and community projects, including the Advent Barbecue.

All Generations: Main Level Left

This is a medium-sized class of all ages that utilizes a discussion-style format and studies books of the Bible using standard study guides.

Bona Vita: Main Level New Fellowship Hall

This is a large class of older adults that utilizes a lecture-style and a discussion-style format, standard curriculum, and variety of teachers.

David Jones: 1st Floor

This is a medium-sized class of older adults that utilizes a combined lecture/discussion format and a standard curriculum with a variety of teachers. The class contributes to Sunnyside Ministry and is the main collector and deliverer from New Philadelphia to Sunnyside of the ‘Item of the Month”. The class also contributes to various missionary and local charities. Projects are funded by special monthly offerings. The class assists the Discipleship Class with the preparation of a meal at Samaritan Inn on the first Monday of each month. The David Jones Class attempts to grow spiritually through Bible study, prayer, and the accountability of Christian fellowship.

Discovery: 1st Floor New Fellowship Hall

This is a large class of young to middle-aged adults that utilizes a discussion-style format where many of the class members take turns leading the discussion. A varied curriculum is used. Discipleship Class: 1st Floor

This is a class of both singles and married adults in their 20 s, 30 s and 40 s. We follow a discussion-based format, with many original lessons taught by class members and invited guests. We produce a weekly newsletter, with notes from discussions, announcements and prayer requests. We collaborate with the David Jones Class on a monthly service project at the Samaritan Inn.

Mary Martha Class: Main Level Right

The Mary Martha class is an environment of inclusivity, safety and confidentiality.  The first priority for our group is to love and nurture each sister in their Christian walk.  We are a place that each participant feels the love and acceptance of God and each other.  We have conversational discussions where each person feels secure enough to voice her opinion and ask questions.  We want everyone to have a chance to add their perspective thereby discovering how to resolve conflicts of opinion while helping one another sort through ideas and information.

New Beginnings: Main Level Right

This is a large class of young to middle-aged adults that utilizes a discussion-style format where many of the class members take turns leading the discussion. A standard curriculum is used. The class contributes to Sunnyside Ministry and various church projects.

New Friendship: 3rd Floor

This is a large class consisting of adults of all ages that utilizes a discussion-style format, with many of the class members taking turns leading the discussion. A standard curriculum is used. The class participates in several large fund-raising projects each year in addition to fellowship events. For information concerning the class please contact Christine Stanfield at 778-1449.

Open Door: Main Level Right

This is a medium-sized class of older adults that uses a lecture-style format and a standard curriculum. This class offers financial support to Missions, Sunnyside Ministry, and various outreach programs.

Sanctuary: Main Level Church Parlor

This is a small class of older adults that utilizes a lecture and discussion format and a standard curriculum. The class contributes to Sunnyside Ministry and other organizations.

New Classes

We start new classes as the demand arises. A good example is a 12 week Marriage Enrichment Course that ran during Sunday School in the winter of 2001-2002. If you have an interest in a new class, and would like to be a part of a core group, please contact Paula Midkiff or another member of the Christian Education Committee.

Small Group Bible Studies

We invariably have several Bible Study Groups meeting at various times during the week. Due to the every changing status of our studies, please contact Paula Midkiff at 765-2331 to see what opportunities are currently available.

Gemeinschaft

This is a spiritual formation group that meets once a week for 40 weeks. Several Gemeinschaft groups are currently meeting at New Philadelphia. For more information, contact Kay Windsor at 766-3514
