Many thanks to the church members who brought their pledge commitments on Sunday during worship. If you have not submitted your pledge commitment cards, please know you can mail them or even bring them by to the church office!

As you prayerfully consider your commitments for this upcoming year, if you are curious to learn what percentage of your income you are giving to the church or other charities, the link above is a very helpful tool in helping you calculate this figure.

Please prayerfully consider how you can support the ministry of New Philadelphia Moravian Church in the year ahead.

Our Stewardship Theme for 2010 is the following:

Forward in Faith, Share the Joy!

How can we measure whether we give enough?

Parish Publishing has a monthly newsletter on the subject of Stewardship and offers these characteristics concerning how we can answer that question. They are:

  • Our life is peaceful.
  • Our children become generous too.
  • We are sensitive to others’ needs.
  • We begin to trust in God.
  • We see our problems in a new light.
  • We feel the Lord present with us.

Worship + 2 in Action

Get involved in our Worship + 2 Ministry!

We appreciate so much your faithful worship attendance at New Philadelphia Moravian Church! We are praying that as a member you will consider doing the following things:

  • Find a place in our church where you are growing spiritually, through Sunday school, small group ministries and other fellowship groups.
  • Find a place in our church or in the community where you are being empowered to serve others in some way.

We received the following communication from Sunnyside Ministry. Click on the More link to see important information about the Ministry.

September was another record setting month at Sunnyside as the need for help continues to grow.  In addition to the assistance given at Haled Street, our twice monthly free clinic at Trinity Moravian Church has been very busy. During the past two clinics, we treated 65 people, most of whom were 5 year-olds in danger of being barred from kindergarten because they had not received physicals.  Our nurses and volunteer doctors do an incredible job with these children, many of whom speak little English and are fearful of the blood test and the shots.  Thanks to all the churches that provide supper for clinic workers.  We always have great meals and the food is appreciated by all.  If your church would like to share in this ministry by providing a meal once a year, please contact Sunnyside and we’ll get you on the schedule.

Donations to Sunnyside Ministry can be mailed to 319 Haled Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.  We can also accept non-cash donations in the following ways:

The Elders here at New Philadelphia have just made a twelve month commitment to Bethesda Center for the Homeless. The 3rd Thursday of each month one of our elders or a member of our staff will be taking a team of 3 or 4 people to the Center to celebrate the Three D’s—Desert, Devotion, and Dialogue. We take a desert, usually Krispy-Kreme Donuts. We share a devotion. We engage in a dialogue in which residents spell out prayer requests. We pray. This sounds simple, and it is, but the rewards are amazing. On one recent visit, a resident of the center said, “It takes a strong person to be homeless.” That comment raised everyone’s awareness, and touched everyone’s heart.

Are you interested in helping? In the near future a sign-up Sheet will be posted in the Commons Area. Please pray for us as we begin this undertaking, and please consider participating. We are the third church in the area to commit to hosting the 3 D’s one night each month. By the way, we were pleased to learn that our Missions and Social Concerns Committee recently approved a $250.00 gift to the Center. I am sure there will be other opportunities to contribute and we will let you know about them. To learn more about the Bethesda Center and its mission on behalf of the chronically homeless, please visit www.bethesdacenter.org. Thanks! Pastor Green

The Stewardship Committee of New Philadelphia began meeting year round in 2004. Their Mission Statement is the following:

The mission of the Stewardship Committee is to help all members grow in their faith journey and their response to God’s grace through applying their gifts to further the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Stewardship Committee emphasizes a year round approach to Stewardship Education. Some of the benefits of year round education are the following:

  • It allows time and creativity to address all aspects of stewardship during the year. We want members to see stewardship as our total response to God’s grace and gifts, not just our financial response.
  • Year round stewardship education helps members to connect the meaning of Christian stewardship to other ministries of the congregation.
  • Year round stewardship education helps to provide a balanced follow up and feed back to the congregation from our annual financial stewardship emphasis.

At a recent Joint Board Planning Retreat we complied a list of all the jobs that must be done around this church just to maintain the ministries we already have in place. Naturally, we would like to be able to do even more. Read the list. Is there something on it that you can do, something that you want to do, or something that God is calling you to do that you are not now doing? If so, please speak with a member of our pastoral staff. Click the more line for a complete listing of tasks that need doing.
