Late Fall Senior News

Groceries are needed for fall and the holidays for our neighbors who are looking for work or have suffered illnesses in their families. Use the grocery list on the bulletin board in the commons area and bring items to the church office now and on December 2 before the Open Door Lunch.

New Philadelphia seniors will meet December 2 at 10 a.m. for a speaker and to collect and bag groceries for the needy. Afterwards, all are invited to join the Open Door Lunch at 11:45. December 10 will be the Christmas gathering. Watch this space, the bulletin board in the commons area and the bulletin for more detail.

Senior Friends Advisory Council met October 22 at Christ Moravian Church. David Guthrie, BEHM (Board of Evangelism and Home Missions) director, shared a service report from senior friends groups in the Southern Province. From about one-third of the groups who reported, more than 2500 hours of service to others was documented. Living Invitations: Sharing the Good News, an evangelism and outreach workshop sponsored by the Evangelism Committee of the BEHM, was held October 3 at Friedburg Moravian Church. Worth Green and David Guthrie were among the speakers for sessions offered. A new Sunday worship outreach served by Sam Gray, Brad Bennett and David Guthrie, “Come and Worship,” has drawn 18-40 people each week to Chelsee’s Coffee Shop on Trade St. in the arts district of Winston-Salem. One-half of the offerings collected have been shared with missions in the community including Seeds of Hope for Errol, an effort to help a local child with many medical problems.

Senior Friends Retreat at Laurel Ridge will be April 26-28, 2010 with the Rev. Jon Bolling (Ardmore Moravian) as retreat leader. More information will follow about registering or call Laurel Ridge at 336-359-2951 or 888-831-5922.
