If you are interested in learning more about our choirs at New Philadelphia please read the following information submitted by one of our talented singers.
Hi –
I am Alisa Rothrock, member of the Chancel Choir of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. I have been singing in the Chancel Choir as a high soprano since October 2001. I joined the Chancel Choir under the direction of Johnnie Hauser. I was blest to have her as a choir director because she made me feel so welcomed. I was a new voice for the choir. At the time, my family and I were in the process of moving our membership from Christ Moravian Church to New Philadelphia Moravian Church. I sang in the adult choir at Christ Moravian Church for nearly 22 years. Johnnie always made me feel my voice was needed in the choir, especially to hit the high notes. I have a deep love and appreciation for Moravian Music. I believe music is an important part of our worship service. I sing from my heart because I truly believe the Lord has blest me with the voice and talent of singing and reading music. I want to use my singing voice as an instrument of peace, love, and joy to be shared with others in God’s House of Worship.
For over a year now, I have been singing under the direction of Steve Gray. I never imagined how blest I would be to sing in a choir led by a member of the Gray Family. Steve has a way of challenging every choir member to sing his or her best. When I finish singing any song directed by Steve, I feel as I have been singing in God’s heavenly choir.
If anyone has a love for singing and wants to join the choir, please make the effort. Not only is the Chancel Choir a way of sharing God’s ministry through music, but also a support group for Christian believers. I come to sing, but I also come to fellowship with other believers. We always end every rehersal by taking prayer request and someone of Steve’s choosing leads us in prayer.
Submitted in Christian Love,
Alisa Rothrock
