Update. We’re all home, we’re all safe, and we’re all exhausted from an amazing
trip! Our group brings greetings to New Philadelphia from the Moravian Church in Nicaragua, after our nine-day mission trip. Again, many thanks to New Philadelphia for your prayers and encouragement.
While in Nicaragua, our group of twenty stayed in Puerto Cabezas, a city on the Atlantic Coast. We spent four days involved in community outreach in the town of Sisin, a nearby village which suffered major damage from Hurricane Felix last year. We helped construct a small log building for the local Moravian church to use, we sifted gravel, and we made over 100 concrete blocks for the construction of the new church building. We also dug two long drainage ditches to counteract flooding during the rainy season, and we led games and activities for the town’s many youth. On Saturday, we played baseball with the youth of Sisin, as cows wandered across the field.
During our time in Puerto Cabezas, our group attended several worship services at the Creole Moravian Church and two Miskito Moravian Churches … we sang several songs in worship, and we were sung to by the overwhelmingly friendly people who greeted us. We led Bible school activities at the Creole church on Sunday, which included games, singing, and making tie-dyed t-shirts. On Monday, we gave the shirts to the children in Sisin. On Tuesday, we flew back to Managua and spent the day touring the city. We have many pictures and stories to tell, and we look forward to providing a more complete report to our congregation in the days ahead. God bless you, and thank you again for your prayers!
