Bearing Fruit

4 Sundays ● 4 Topics

Practices of Fruitful Congregations

4-6pm each evening, including meal fellowship!

February 21 | Radical Hospitality | WFU Office of Jewish Life

How can hospitality be radical?  It can exceed expectations, ask us to give the utmost of ourselves to offer invitation.  Our acts of hospitality offer the liberation and freedom found in the love of God.

To help us experience this call to hospitality, everyone is invited to partake in a Passover Seder.

The Passover offers us a glimpse into the life of Jesus and demonstrates God’s commitment to the wellbeing of all God’s children expressed through it.  What might we learn about keeping the door open in welcome?

** RSVP required for Meal Preparations and Table set-up **

February 28 | Extravagant Generosity | Crisis Control Ministries

What is generosity?  We are called to a readiness, a fullness of giving – but what most might be gained in our giving?  Join us as we experience a simulation of what life may be for many in our community,

so we better understand the depth and breadth of our community’s reality.

Volunteers from around our community will join us to present the Crisis Control Poverty Simulation.

We’ll share in a pot-luck meal fellowship for Dinner, bring your favorite comfort foods!

** RSVP required for Event Prep, as it is tailored especially for us **

March 6 | Passionate Worship | The Rev. David Guthrie

Worship at its best connects people with God and one another, opens us to the experience of God’s grace and the doing of God’s word, and forms us into the Body of Christ.  Through experiences and conversation, we’ll explore possible ways that worship can fill us with warmth, graciousness, belonging and inspiration.

Share in Subway sandwich options for this evening’s meal!

March 13 | Risk-taking Mission & Service | The Rt. Rev. Sam Gray

God’s process of forming disciples happens through our practice of Christ’s compassion, mercy and justice with others.  Join in this time of thinking about our gifts and skills and how they can be shared to meet the needs of compassion, mercy and justice in our world.

Share in a pizza & salad dinner for this evening’s meal!

  • Evening Option begins Thursday, February 11th at 6:30pm

September is upon us! Whether driven by weather or school calendars, the slide into Fall is one that leads us easily into routines and rituals. For some this may bring tailgating, for others homework, or maybe both. But all these things flow well into the concepts of harvest time, gathering in from the joys of Summer and preparing the soil for next things.

Gregory Norbert offers these words to describe the season of harvest.

“A time for kneading love’s leaven well, to open up and go beyond ourselves; and as we reach for this moment, we know that love is a gift born in care.”

This is a time to open ourselves and discover new things or uncover things in places that we haven’t explored before even though they are familiar. For children and youth it is the very tangible forming of new community in their class groupings and schedule patterns. For others of us, it may be engaging in a new small group or fresh volunteer commitment. Or it may simply be viewing the comfort of long-standing community in the light of a new season and the projects of that time together.

Fall Education Sunday Kick-Off
On September 13, Education Sunday, we will celebrate some of our many opportunities to grow in the fertile soil of community this year. Throughout September, consider what might offer you fresh bread
in this harvest season and get involved in some of these opportunities.

For Children and Youth on September 13:
9am & 11:10am Worship – Celebrate our 1st graders as they receive their Bibles in Worship.

4-5:30pm – New Philly Kids, for children Kindergarten through 5th grade, is a place to explore the Bible, serve others and have fun! Our Church has Talent! is our theme for the year ahead, join us in the Picnic Shelter as we begin discovering and learning to use our individual talents to serve the Lord.

5-5:30pm – Children’s Ministry Parent Meeting, a brief conversation for parents about the year ahead. Do you want your child to grow into a resilient adult faith? How can we support your family this year? Join us at the Picnic Shelter to discuss focus for this year and opportunities for an upcoming parent topic series with Ellen Fox.

5:30-6pm – Fellowship Kick-off Dinner for all New Philly Kids and Youth families! All children, youth and their parents are invited to come and share in this meal together. Plan to bring a side dish or dessert.

5:30-7pm – Youth Fellowship, for 6th-12th grade youth, is a time filled with service opportunities, hands-on exploring of faith and support of one another. Join our leaders, Erin and Ross, as they share about the
year ahead.

Tomorrow is the first day of Lent. Today we celebrated the end of “feasting” with a Shrove Tuesday Tea. A tip of the hat goes out to those who made it possible: V. Flynt, B. King, M. Tedder, C. Manning, B. Pettersen and N. Holland. There were about 20 guest. We cut a King Cake—-and we had cucumber sandwiches. The Pastor spoke about an ominous subject—“The Number of the Beast is the Number of a Man.” If you would like to attend one of our Pastor’s teas, please contact The Church Office. We hold them two to three times each year. If you want to know more about the Book of Revelation, plan to attend the Pastor’s Luncheon Bible Study, beginning on Thursday, February 21st. We will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring a sandwich. Beverages will be provided.

At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday a number of individuals from New Philadelphia gathered at Sunnyside Ministry to present a check from the Moravian 5K Challenge in the amount of $6,800.48 cents. Br. Tommy Cole (Holding the Left Corner of the Check), director, was on hand to receive the check. Betsy Fraser (2nd from right), the head of the Race Committee made the presentation, accompanied by Kay Adams(Extreme Right), chair of the Moravian Festival, Tim Ward (Back Row Right), representing the board of Cooperative Ministries, David, Cindy (Extreme Left) and Riley Daggett (Kneeling), who worked the Race, David Stanfield (Back Row Left), the treasurer of the Moravian Festival Committee, and Drew Boyett (Holding the Right Corner of the Check) the winner of the Race.

The members of the New Philadelphia Moravian Church are justly proud of the many hours dedicated to this race by Betsy and the members of her committee. It is nice to think that a number of people will sleep warmer, and eat better over the next several months because of their efforts. A special thank-you goes out to all our race volunteers and especially race participants. As Br. David Daggett is heard to say, “Keep on moving!”
