Namesake: A Bible Study for Women
Tuesday Evenings from 7 – 8 PM
September 10, 17, 24 and October 8 in the Church Library
Study Guides are available in the church office for participants!

Namesake will be a 7-week Bible Study that explores how God often changed people’s names when God’s interaction in their lives changed them. We will think about transformation – the transformation God works in an individual’s life – and revelation – how God reveals Himself in Scripture. Each session has it’s own focus, you can miss a session and still feel a part of what is happening. 7 Biblical characters are featured: Abraham & Sarah, Jacob, Naomi, Daniel, Peter, and the woman caught in adultery.

If you wish to participate, please just contact Christy or call the Church Office and express your interest so we know how many folks for the study guides in this series.

Daniel: A Look at Prophesy
Tuesdays, September 17, 24, October 1, 8
9:30 – 10:30, Church Library

A four-part study aimed at how we can make this scripture personal, looking at the history behind the story. We’ll explore what were Jewish practices of the time; the Babylon of Daniel’s time; the community life in colonial Salem and our present time; and what all those signs and predictions mean! If interested in attending, contact the church office or Christy. Don’t worry if you can’t attend all sessions; each stands on its own.

Gemeinschaft 3
Monday evenings beginning in mid-September
5:30, Church Library

This class offers a wonderful way to create a personal statement of faith through a look at the creeds of the Christian Church, Moravian Covenant for Christian Living, Ground of the Unity and Jesus’ life as described in the Gospels. We explore as a small group but also consider our own personal reflections on these documents, becoming closer to God through journaling our experiences. Please consider participation in this group if you have completed Gemeinschaft 2 at some point and would like to continue the journey. Contact Christy or the church office to connect with this group.

Fall Sunday School
After a Summer of shared spaces and broader age groupings, we’re excited about moving into Fall Sunday School with smaller groups, new curriculum and some gradual changes in our meeting spaces. We’re looking at having 10 classes for children and youth during the Sunday School hour, plus nursery care just for children from birth to 2 years. We are still working on finalizing the teaching teams for each group, interested??? – I’d love to add you to one of these teams!

Fall Sunday School for children and youth will kick-off on September 8, including a special time during both worship services that morning recognizing our classes.

Children’s Church
As we move through the Fall, we are excited about creating a more dedicated space for exploring ideas about worship and the Bible during our Children’s Church. As changes are ready to be implemented, we’ll let you know as this will be a growing process. Along the way, children from age 4 through 1st grade will be invited to participate in this hands-on way of worshipping. We will be working toward implementing Godly Play, a curriculum that invites children to hear the stories of the Old and New Testaments through wooden sets of figurines that illustrate visually what they children are hearing in each story. Sound like fun?… if you’re a woodworker or are curious about this approach to hearing the Bible, give me a call!

Kids of Faith will now include children from 2nd through 5th grades, since 1st graders will remain included in Children’s Church.

New Phillies
The theme of service that emerged at VBS was such a hit among kids, parents and volunteers alike that the New Phillies will be carrying that into an exploration of stewardship this Fall. New Phillies will go on an Amazing Race adventure during their sessions – learning about service to our church, our community and our world throughout the Fall. We’re excited about weaving music with Miss Sandra into this program more intentionally. New Phillies is for all children from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

New Phillies will kick-off on September 15 from 4 to 6pm. Parents of all children are invited to participate in a parent’s meeting for all areas of Children’s ministry from 4 – 6pm, with childcare provided for children from birth through age 5. A family dinner will follow at 6pm.

Children’s Choirs
Sandra Gray will continue to share her love of music with the children through our children’s choirs. Their rehearsals will begin on September 8 – with K – 2nd graders meeting from 5:15 – 6pm and 3rd – 5th graders meeting from 6 – 6:45pm. Youth will rehearse from 4:30 – 5:15.
