Community Outreach

New Philadelphia is committed to serving our neighbors by being active in the surrounding community of South Fork and beyond.
  1. New Philadelphia Moravian Church partners with our neighbor, South Fork Elementary School, a Title 1 School. We give support to the scholars, their families, and the faculty in many ways. Sunday School classes, Women’s Fellowship Circles, and individuals provide monthly treats for the faculty and staff. We start the year with Apple Day where everyone receives an apple from an orchard in Virginia, and we end the year with the 5th grade graduation in the church’s Fellowship Hall. In between these two events, we provide Thanksgiving meals for 25-40 families, Christmas gifts and meals for 30 scholars and their families, a 4th grade Lovefeast and punched-tin ornament making, toothbrushes and toothpaste for every South Fork scholar during Children’s Dental Health Month, a Book Fair and egg hunt for all 3rd graders, Spring Break bags for 25 families, and lunch for the faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week in May. We supply volunteers for Dolphin Dads on Duty, Dolphin Family Fall Feast, Valentine’s Day Dance, Field Days, Career Exploration Day, Tie a Tie Day, proctors for End of Grade Testing and more. Our ministry is growing through prayers and gifts of time, talent, and money, and we have a place for you! Come Join us!
  2. The Blessing Box, erected in May 2020, has become a significant part of our community outreach, providing food staples to hungry families and individuals.  We also welcome and appreciate the active role neighbors outside of our congregation have taken in helping us keep the Box filled.
  3. Usually scheduled during the first Twelve Days of December, 12 Days of Service is a time of ramped-up community involvement from our congregation. The activities are varied so that everyone – young and old, groups, families and individuals – can participate and connect with those in need right here in Winston Salem. Some of the organizations who have benefitted from 12 Days include: Sunnyside Ministry, South Fork Elementary, Samaritan Ministries, Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministry, and City with Dwellings, just to name a few. 12 Days of Service strengthens our church’s impact as we start asking, “How can we serve like Jesus?”
