Adult Education

Adult Sunday School

New Philadelphia Moravian Church is committed to the Christian education, spiritual formation, and nurture of its adult members, too. A variety of classes are offered which enable persons to learn and grow in faith, to discern God’s will for their lives and to live in the world as Christian disciples. Adult Sunday School Classes provide a choice of studies and study methods as well as providing a network of fellowship and support.

In addition to the traditional Sunday morning classes, we are constantly developing and offering a variety of small-group educational opportunities that meet at various times during the week. Please check the bulletin and the newsletter for these opportunities.

Room 300 – A presentation based Bible study class, this class is a large group of adults still working or transitioning into retirement. A rotation of teachers leads their lessons.

Room 222 – A facilitated discussion Bible study class, using The Present Word, this class is a comfortably sized group of retired older adults who enjoy a weekly conversation led by a facilitator.

Room 133 – A class of mixed ages and relationships, ranging from late 20s to early 50s, a discussion focused class.

Room 139 – A discussion based Bible study class, facilitated by a weekly teacher, utilizing study guides and current Christian literature in a welcoming and engaging group setting.

Library – A multi-generational adult offering focused on discussion of provocative Christian literature in a small group setting.

Room 306 – A small women’s group discussion and book study class that chooses to study texts grounded in Biblical interpretation and aspects of faith practice.

Room 224 – A small group that meets on Sunday morning to study scripture and related topics, and enjoy fellowship.

Room 301 – A mid-sized group of adults who gather for a presentation and discussion oriented class.

Room 201 – The Wayfinders Class is for curious folk with questions and a desire to know more about Jesus. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Together we will embark on a quest to find our way to faith and a closer walk with Jesus.

Room 305 – The Sisters of Deborah class explores a variety of materials, including Bible Studies (often focused on women in the Bible), nonfiction works discussing timely and relevant issues of Christianity, sisterhood, and Jesus, articles, and audio and visual media. Each class includes a lesson that ties the reading to our Moravian beliefs and principles, followed by a supportive fellowship and prayer time to discuss our praises and prayers and seek guidance and support from each other. We offer opportunities to socialize and gather outside of the regular class time as well. We are part educational, part support group, and part social club. Through our discussions, we hope to develop strong friendships and a support network for young women in the church. We encourage folks to join us long term or pop in, and hope that we can be a welcoming place for our youngest women visiting from college as well.
