Job Description:

The Director of Christian Education is responsible to the church through the Senior Pastor (immediate supervisor) and Joint Board for overseeing its children’s ministry and coordinating its partnership with the New Philadelphia Preschool, South Fork Elementary, and other partners. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Ensuring that children’s Sunday School classes have the resources needed (qualified teachers, appropriate literature, funding, calendar planning, superintendents, etc.) to provide wholesome Christian education for ages PreK-5th graders – and that all children’s Sunday School classes and other activities are conducted in accordance with the church’s Safe Sanctuary Policy.
2. Focusing on building a thorough and well-rounded ministry to PreK-5th grade children and their parents, including but not limited to the New Phillies youth ministry.
3. Taking the lead and working with other appropriate groups in the church to enhance the partnership with the New Philadelphia Preschool families, South Fork Elementary, etc.
4. Cooperating with other staff and lay leadership to enhance the ministry of New Philadelphia Moravian Church through both congregational fellowship opportunities and outreach.
5. Planning, conducting, and evaluating a thorough program of children and family ministries that tells the story of New Philadelphia to the public.
6. Maintaining connections to a network of other Christian Educators to cultivate new ideas and discover what is working well in their churches
7. Participating in ongoing continuing education for professional study and growth.
8. Planning and leading quarterly activities for PreK-5th graders to engage more of the community and provide outreach/discipleship (for example, Easter egg hunt, Back to School events, 1st Sunday in Advent).
9. Coordinating and presenting Bibles annually to 1st graders within the church.
10. Providing and maintaining resources for children’s engagement during the worship service.
11. Coordinating coverage for the nursery workers both on Sundays and for special events.
12. Leading as needed, training and coordinating volunteers to facilitate children’s worship during the Sunday service.
13. Serving as chair of the Discipleship Team, and staff liaison to the Scouts and Preschool Teams.
14. Serving as member of the Youth Committee.
15. Leading chapel for preschool children twice a month.
16. Communicating church activities to preschool families.
