Glimpse – Reboot!

After a months-long hiatus, Glimpse will resume meeting on Tuesday evenings beginning February 1st at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom.

Glimpse provides an opportunity for folks to gather online to take a look at the scripture texts for the following Sunday. This often includes short videos, art, or music to provide context and to promote discussion.

In-person Service CANCELED

At the Joint Board Retreat this morning, the Boards expressed (unanimously) we should cancel our in-person service for tomorrow morning, January 16.

Their preference is for Pastor Sam to Live stream a short devotional on Facebook FROM HOME and not to have anyone attempt to drive to the church.

Kay Windsor will be sharing the Live Stream via Zoom, so if you prefer that option you can go to the newphilly.org website and click on the green square that says, “ZOOM for listeners with video.”

IMPORTANT SUNDAY MORNING 9:30 WORSHIP SERVICE UPDATE:

Please refer to the notifications on WXII, WFMY, WGHP and WSJS on Sunday morning (January 16) for cancellation information.

If our in-person service is canceled (which it most likely will be) we will still offer a worship opportunity online through the usual Facebook Live Stream (at 9:30 a.m.).

This week’s Gathering will be a time for guided and focused prayer. In keeping with the emphasis on prayer and fasting, we will not have any snacks or refreshments. Pastor Gray will provide resources and several creative ways to join together in prayer. If you are not comfortable praying out loud in public – have no fear! There will be other ways that you can be part of the “prayer blitz” – something for all personality types and comfort levels!

Thursday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Banquet Room.

This past Sunday, I challenged all of you to take seriously Jesus’s statement that some things can only be faced head on with prayer and fasting. I asked you to choose one mealtime this week (or any week) when, instead of eating, you would use the time to join in battling the Coronavirus and its variants by “praying this thing away,” even as we continue to act responsibly and thoughtfully. Michael Crane shared some resources with me from a website called “The Grotto.” I have summarized some of their information to offer you a sense of focus for your time of prayer and fasting this week.

Let’s all pray:

  • For the Coronavirus to stop spreading and for all of us to do our part in helping that happen.
  • For people who are infected with the Coronavirus and/or facing quarantine
  • For medical professionals, caregivers, and researchers, and all those responsible for fighting the Coronavirus.
  • For leaders responsible for making decisions about the Coronavirus.
  • For families adjusting to new ways of life.
  • For business owners and families facing financial stress.
  • For grocery store workers and delivery drivers.
  • For health and healing.
  • For peace and comfort for those who have lost loved ones.
  • For a sense of solidarity and community in facing this together.
